Catcher Interference?

A baseball question from Mike:

My question is regarding catcher interference.

The batter is getting set to bat and during is his getting set his bat touches my glove. He looks back to see what he hit and as he looks back the pitcher pitches the ball. Is this still considered interference?

Answer: That is an interesting question. I assume it is a hypothetical situation, not an actual occurrence. In any event it deserves an answer.

So I checked with the official baseball rule book and found this sentence which appears to address the issue:

Rule 6.08 c. If the catcher interferes with the batter before the pitcher delivers the ball, it shall not be considered interference on the batter under Rule 6.08 (c). In such cases, the umpire shall call "Time" and the pitcher and batter start over from "scratch."

Since contact of the bat with the catcher's glove took place before the pitcher delivered the ball,  this should not be considered interference. Assuming, of course, the umpire was aware of the contact prior to the pitch, the umpire should call time out.

If I were the umpire in this situation and I saw the contact I would call time out and rule no pitch.
