"The Bad News Bears"
In this, our first movie posting of the Kids' Sports Bulletin Board, I am going way back in time to 1976 for our first movie recommendation; The Bad News Bears starring Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal. It has long been a favorite of mine in the "Kids Sports" category. Old-timers will remember this, but for members of the younger generation The Bad News Bears is a delightful comedy about a losing Little League team that miraculously turns its season around because or perhaps despite the coaching of a seemingly insensitive and inept, beer-drinking old grouch (Matthau) and the addition of a talented nine-year old female pitcher (O'Neal). The casting of little kid characters in the roles of the Bears team members is marvelous and unforgettable. The background music is a classic (theme from "Carmen") and perfectly appropriate. It is an outrageous view of some of the good and the not so good in little league baseball. It is a wonderfully funny movie that kids and grown ups will enjoy. It is rated PG.
